Meibukan Goju Karate Winnipeg

At our dojo, we practice karate as a way of life. Our dojo emphasizes the importance of personal development and the self defence aspects of karate in a non competitive, non sport environment, as opposed to the competitive styles which have proliferated in North America. The specific style of Gojyu translates as 'go' meaning hard and 'jyu' meaning soft. Gojyu karate utilizes both closed handed, open handed, linear, and circular techniques as well as joint locks and take downs. Additionally there is a focus on proper breathing methods to cleanse, strengthen, and tap into our internal health.

Kids, adults, those experienced in martial arts, and those who have no idea what's going on.
The best place to learn self defence.
Our daughter went all the way up to junior black belt and I got hooked and also got my black belt!
My kid just finished her first year in the Little Dragons program at Meibukan Goju Karate, and it was the most wonderful experience for her, and our whole family.
Their work with the young ones are second to none.
In additional to regular programming for all ages and stages, they also offer some daytime classes and a homeschool program, as well as movie nights, and a fantastic summer family camp.
The dojo is committed to traditional Okinawan karate both as a means to self-improvement and as a method for self-defense.
